Canadians are pretty boring, at least when it comes to their Tim Hortons Timbits picks. To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the popular donut holes, the coffee chain released a regional breakdown of the most popular Timbits orders.
In Quebec, the classic Chocolate Glazed won out, followed by Honey Dip and Birthday Cake. Those choices align with the most popular orders in Ontario and Western Canada (including Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the three territories).
Atlantic Canada was the odd region out with its questionable penchant for the Old Fashioned Plain, confirming once and for all that the group of four provinces is the most boring part of Canada (kidding... mostly).
Quebec stood out from other areas of the country with its fourth most popular pick: Strawberry Filled — perhaps unsurprising given the local emphasis on the red fruit.
Old Fashioned Glazed were the fifth most consumed Timbits in the province.
As for the ridiculously popular Timbiebs, Tim Hortons' collaboration with Justin Bieber, the Chocolate White Fudge was Canada's favourite flavour.
"It was such a huge year for the Timbits platform, not only for the big 45th anniversary but with our work with Justin to collaborate on Timbiebs, which have been a massive hit!" Tim Hortons Director of Culinary Innovation — yes that's a job — Chef Tallis Voakes said in a statement.
"Justin told us the Chocolate Glazed was his favourite classic Timbit so I'm not surprised it ended up officially being Canada's favourite as well."
Tim Hortons also shared a list of past or limited-edition Timbits, many of which seem to have disappeared from the menu. Standouts include Cotton Candy, Cherry Cake, Cinnamon French Toast and Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch.
Anyone who loves their daily Tim Hortons coffee and is looking to make a little extra cash this holiday season is going to be thrilled to know this Canadian chain is looking for French speakers from Quebec to be part of a new campaign — and pairs can get up to $4,500 if you're selected.
You can read the excitement through the casting call, which says "WE'RE LOOKING FOR COFFEE AND DONUT LOVING DUOS FROM ACROSS QUEBEC FOR A FUN TIM HORTONS CAMPAIGN!"
Casting Director Andrew Deiters told MTL Blog they're "excited to see some interesting and unconventional looks, and relationships — including siblings, friends and couples." And that they "always have an eye on diversity, too.”
If you get selected, you will need to make your way to Toronto for the day of the shooting.
The Groundglass Casting listing asks: "Do you and your friend bond over a Tims coffee and donut? Does your partner always bring you a donut before visiting you? Do you and your parent spend Sunday mornings at Tims? If so, we want to hear from you!"
For anyone who relates to any of these questions on a deeper level, it could be worth filling out the audition form — just make sure to do it before December 16, 2021* when submissions close.
Groundglass Casting said while no experience is required, people must still be comfortable with being interviewed in front of a camera. You're going to need to do a short interview with the director on January 4 if you're chosen.
You must also be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be free for a COVID-19 test and meeting with a stylist on January 10 and 11, if you'd like to apply.
As stated in the casting call, other specifications include:
If selected, you MUST be available for a one-day shoot on January 13 or 14 in Toronto. The shoot will only be one day, but you must keep both dates open until we have confirmed the shoot date.
If you are selected for this commercial, you must be prepared to travel to Toronto for the shoot. Air, rail and car travel will be covered, as well as accommodation, plus a $100 per diem. In addition, you will receive $350 per day of travel.
Finally, if you are selected for this commercial, you will receive $75 for the meeting with the stylist, $75 for the COVID-19 test and $750 for the day of filming. Finally, if your testimonial is used in the final cut, you will also receive an additional $1,500 to $2,000 depending on how it is used.
When Tim Hortons announced the launch of Justin Bieber's "Timbiebs," I experienced some Canadian nostalgia. I remembered the days when all the girls at my high school gushed over Bieber (and his bowl cut) and the song "Baby" played on the radio so often that it was stuck in my head for months.
Years later, the Canadian pop star has gone on to achieve bigger and better things, but his latest project could be the greatest of them all: releasing three flavours of Timbits. If you haven't gotten the chance to try them yet, here's my honest review.
Timbiebs' three flavours — Chocolate White Fudge, Sour Cream Chocolate Chip and Birthday Cake Waffle – were hand-picked by Bieber himself.
According to a press release, Bieber worked with Tim Hortons' director of culinary innovations, Chef Tallis Voakes, to come up with the winning recipes after multiple rounds of experimenting with different flavour combinations.
"Doing a Tim Hortons collab has always been a dream of mine," Bieber said in a statement. "I grew up on Tim Hortons and it's always been something close to my heart."
I'm not the biggest Bieber fan (although I respect him as an artist) but I am a big fan of many recording artists he's collaborated with in the past. I wondered if Bieber would have the same taste in Timbits as he does in musical artists. As Timbiebs began flooding my newsfeed and pushing their way into conversations with friends, I started to get curious. Upon hearing that they were sold out and tough to find in Montreal, I knew the hype was real and that I had to try them for myself.
The first thing I did was call my local Tim Hortons to make sure it was stocked with Timbiebs. Luckily, it had all three flavours available. The employee I spoke to told me that they're obligated to have Timbiebs in stock every morning, but they usually run low at around 5 p.m. So, as long as you get to a Timmies before then, you should be fine!
Sour Cream Chocolate Chip: I liked how the individual flavours complemented each other. I tasted the chocolate and the sour cream in one bite, which impressed me since it would've been easy for one to overpower the other. It also had the perfect amount of sweetness, which I appreciated since sugar rush headaches are the worst. 8.5/10
Chocolate White Fudge: Chocolate White Fudge reminded me of classic chocolate glazed Timbits — so much so, in fact, that I honestly didn't see much of a difference between the two flavours. I might get heat for saying this, but I've never been a fan of chocolate glazed. It's not that I completely dislike them, I've just always liked other flavours better. And this was exactly the case with Chocolate White Fudge. 6/10
Birthday Cake Waffle: The moment I bit into this Timbieb, I knew it was my favourite of the three. It really is like enjoying a classic birthday cake, yet the presentation of the sprinkles is what stood out to me most. Essentially, it tastes as good as it looks. If this came out when I was a kid, I would've spent my allowance money on it every chance I got. And something tells me that was the idea Bieber had in mind. 10/10
If I had to choose, I'd take a box of Birthday Cake Waffle over Chocolate White Fudge or Sour Cream Chocolate Chip.
Did 'Timbiebs' turn me into a Justin Bieber groupie?
Overall, the Biebs didn't let me down. Each of the flavours is worth trying. I'll probably frequent my local Timmies in the coming weeks to get some more Timbiebs.
While I can't say I've turned into a full-blown Bieber groupie after trying them, I will say "Baby" got stuck in my head again — even though I haven't listened to the song in over a decade.
Timbiebs are only available until December 28. The price of a box of ten is reasonable at $3.51 (tax included). You might see pigeons, seagulls, and even geese hanging out in a Tim Hortons parking lot, but have you ever seen a flamingo? That's exactly what some Granby residents saw at their local Tims on Wednesday morning.
According to a Facebook post by the Granby Zoo, a pink flamingo made a daring escape out of its enclosure in an apparent effort to get a taste of some Canadian goodness.
"To reassure everyone, there wasn't a sale on shrimp at the IGA or a special on coffee at Tim Hortons," explained Karl Fournier, director of animal care at the Granby Zoo in a video.
"For reasons unknown, the flamingo escaped and flew away from its group. Our team quickly mobilized and it was captured in a calm manner."
Apparently, the flamingo allowed the zookeepers to approach. The keepers were able to safely return the bird to its enclosure.
The flamingo, likely lamenting yesterday's frigid weather, was probably more than happy to get home safely.
"Our flamingo is doing well," Fournier said.
This isn't the first time an animal has escaped from the Granby Zoo. In April 2018, a leopard managed to escape but later returned to its habitat.
Justin Bieber and Tim Hortons are teaming up in an unlikely partnership to bring you three new Timbit donut flavours you didn't ask for but are getting anyway.
The coffee chain made the announcement via a new ad that shows the Canadian singer brainstorming possible new flavour combinations, ultimately deciding on Birthday Cake Waffle, Chocolate White Fudge and Sour Cream Chocolate Chip.
The French version of the video even shows Bieber uttering a few phrases in la langue de Molière.
According to a press release, the superstar arrived at the three new flavours following a "multi-stage, iterative journey" with Chef Tallis Voakes, Tim Hortons Director of Culinary Innovation.
"Doing a Tim Hortons collab has always been a dream of mine," Bieber said in the release. "I grew up on Tim Hortons and it's always been something close to my heart."
'Timbiebs' will be available at participating Tim Hortons locations in Canada for a limited time as of November 29.
